Rain, a stablecoin payments platform, on Tuesday launched the Agentic Payments Alliance, a coalition of more than 25 companies including Visa, Mastercard, Circle and Solana that aims to set standards for AI agents that transact on their own.
Members will pursue shared research, test emerging identity and authorization standards and advocate on regulatory questions, according to a press release. The group is to be run collectively by its founding members rather than controlled by any one company.
Rain pointed to projections of $3 trillion to $5 trillion in agent-driven commerce by 2030, and said the industry should align on how agents are authorized before that volume arrives.
"No single company should decide how agents transact on someone's behalf," said Farooq Malik, Rain's co-founder and CEO.
Founding members get early access to Rain's Agentic Startup Program, an accelerator. The rest of the roster: Avalanche, Basis Theory, Chainalysis, Coinflow, Crossmint, delta Network, Episode Six, Evertec, Fireblocks, Fiserv, Kala, Lithic, Monad, PayOS, Remitly, Rialo by Subzero Labs, Sardine, Shift4, Turnkey, Uniswap Labs and Yuno.
HOW AI WAS USED IN THE PRODUCTION OF THIS PIECE: I drafted this story on Claude using a custom skill designed to write story drafts based on press releases. I then filed the draft directly to DeAI News on Distro using the Distro Publisher MCP connector. I edited the piece using Distro's built-in (non-AI) editing interface. I checked the draft against the press release prior to publication.
