It's been more than a year since the price of the AI agent project Eliza's crypto token collapsed, erasing billions of dollars in market value nearly as quickly as it accumulated. (A matter of months, both ways.)
A class-action lawsuit ensued.
A fresh round of recriminations has now broken out, and this time it's an airing of grievances between two principal players in the apparently not-forgotten drama.
On Saturday, Eliza Labs founder Shaw Walters posted a scathing account on X accusing Baoskee, co-founder of the Solana launchpad daos.fun, of insider trading the AI16Z token (later renamed ELIZAOS).
According to the post, Baoskee netted about $6.7 million in proceeds from quietly cashing out after learning that Andreessen Horowitz, a big venture-capital firm that goes by the nickname "a16z," was asking for the Eliza project to change the token's name. A plan was hatched to migrate to a new token name ELIZAOS, but it would require a community vote.
Walters told holders at the time that the ticker would stay put until a voting module launched and holders could vote, The Block reported in January 2025.
"While the migration was scheduled and planned, with @baoskee in the loop, he sold all of his $ai16z tokens into the market, crashing the price," Walters wrote in the latest post.
In April, Burwick Law, a plaintiffs' firm specializing in class actions involving digital assets, filed a proposed class action in Manhattan federal court naming Walters, Eliza Labs, the ai16z DAO, DAOs.fun and Baoskee among the defendants.
Walters said earlier this month that the lawsuit was settled for the project's entire remaining treasury, and he declared the token "dead."
'Idk what he is talking about'
The voting system never launched, Walters said. The team instead ran a messy 1-to-6 token migration to ELIZAOS starting in November.
Walters went out of his way to absolve the venture firm. "A16z was very cool about everything," he wrote. "We put them in a bad position."
DeAI News reached out to Baoskee for comment via a direct message on X but had not heard back as of press time.
But in a quote-post two hours after Walters' latest post, Baoskee said voting "went live" and that it was still on the website, and that daos.fun added and locked more than $1 million of AI16Z liquidity "out of our own pocket."
"Idk what he is talking about," Baoskee wrote.
Baoskee also leveled a list of counter-allegations at Walters: that he turned "the biggest token of last cycle from billions to literal 6 figures," and ran "tens of millions of dev funds to zero while producing nothing of value the last 2 years."
Commenters on the dueling posts weighed in on both sides of the back-and-forth.
At least one poster remarked that it was time to move on: "Bruh nobody cares anymore drop some new shit fam," wrote @tehtrenches.
HOW AI WAS USED IN THE PRODUCTION OF THIS PIECE: I wrote the initial version of this story on Claude Desktop using a skill designed to write drafts based on X posts. I filed the draft directly to DeAI News on Distro using the Distro Publisher MCP connector. I then edited the piece using the Distro built-in (non-AI) story editor, and I checked the facts prior to publication.
