Crypto payments protocol x402 experiences steep decline in activity after initial flurry

The x402 protocol, developed by Coinbase and Cloudflare to facilitate crypto payments by AI agents, has witnessed a dramatic dropoff in transactions following an initial surge when it was released last year. Earlier this month, the daily average had fallen to about 57,000, for a 92% drop from its December highs.
