Bitcoin mining firm Luxor Technology raised $16 million in a strategic round led by CMT Digital, with mining-hardware makers Canaan and MicroBT also participating, Decrypt reported. The funds will scale Luxor's AI cloud platform, hardware business and compute-derivatives trading desk, building on its September-launched Luxor AI unit.
The DeAI angle: Luxor's move shows how AI continues to draw Bitcoin miners toward what they perceive as a more attractive source of demand for computational power. That's the case even as "neocloud" firms like CoreWeave, which has roots in crypto mining, face market pressures from investors over their heavy debt loads used to finance the AI expansions.
